After a year of being confined indoors, now more than ever we are seeing an emphasis on how we live in and utilize our space. The importance of having a home that is not only functional but well-designed is essential. Buyers priorities are changing and what is being sought out looks different than this time last year. Read along to see our forecast for home staging and design trends for 2021.

What buyers are looking for…

  • Well designed space, homes that are sanctuaries
  • Multi-functional spaces, home offices
  • Natural lighting
  • Outdoor space; gardening, patio potential, indoor/outdoor dining or lounge space

Colors and textures

  • Bright white is phasing out and more warm, earthy tones as well as dark rooms and patterned wallpaper are being “introduced”. Emphasis on earthy, creamy tones; browns and terracottas, muted colors such as deep greens, burgundies, blush pinks, navies, greige
  • Brass; furniture and fixtures that develop patina
  • Layering textures; natural fibers such as linen, wool etc.

Furniture

  • Textured sofas in shearling, slipcovered linen, mohair is also having a moment
  • Stone, wood, marble

Accessories

  • Stools
  • Vintage pieces with substance; natural stones, vases, again brass and marble
  • Modern lighting, small lamps
  • Original artwork, abstract textured art pieces (check out our post of a roundup of some affordable artwork!)
  • Life; house plants, branches, foraged greenery

Designer Collaborations x Target (Studio McGee), Leann Ford x CB, Amber Lewis and Anthropologies etc.

  • With the successes of designer collaborations such as Studio McGee x Target, affordable design is more attainable than ever. In addition to emphasis being on having a home environment that is serene and a “sanctuary” to home owners, people are researching design and seeking out advice from experts and influencers they follow and trust. We will be seeing a lot more collaborations being launched with larger companies, designers, and influencers.
